Been doing a couple weeks of pulling 24 hour work days with sleeping 15 hours (or less) on alternative days. Thought it was working out for me at first. Well, it finally took it's toll last night with numbness/tingling in my left are, my jaw and chest discomfort. Scared the hell out of me, knowing the symptoms and being a paramedic before.
Well, turned out to be a cardiac arhythmia with a B/P of 170/110. Not good. They kept me over night with a battery of tests and finally loaded me up with valium so I could sleep.
Being in Mexico, I was pretty impressed with the level of care I received. The other thng that was cool was that my roommate brought my Packet8 IP phone and hooked the base up to the ethernet in the nurses station and the cordless in my room. Worked like a charm. Told the nurses they could call anyone they wanted in the US and Canada. They were sorry to see me leave and I will go back and see one of the nurses that took care of me - she wa pretty damned hot.
Nonetheless, when 20 people tell you that you should take a rest and get some sleep, you should probably do it. I am my own worst patient.
